Estate and Trust Planning

The Estate and Trust Planning practice focuses on providing personal, in-depth counseling to individuals and families on the accumulation, preservation and transfer of their property in accordance with their objectives. The primary goal is to provide clients with complete assurance that their estate and financial affairs will be handled appropriately and efficiently in the manner they designate and to achieve financial protection and security for their family members.

We are committed to ensuring that our clients and their families have a favorable estate planning experience. Each client is guided through the estate planning process with a close evaluation of the client's unique goals and objectives, family characteristics and current and projected estate. We candidly discuss how long the process will take, what is required from clients and the likely fees. We also work closely with our client's financial advisors, accountants and other professional advisors to create the most comprehensive estate plan possible.

Our estate planning clients are a diverse group of individuals and families in various stages of life, family blends and assets levels. Two particular focuses of our estate planning practice are planning for those with minor children and for business owners. Parents of minor children face many critical decisions concerning the well-being of their children. We spend considerable time with parents on the many considerations in selecting the appropriate guardian for their children and developing strategies to ensure sufficient assets are available and preserved for their children's support and education. For business owners, we work closely with clients to develop plans to preserve their current interests and to develop succession plans in the event of death, disability or retirement. All planning for business owners is coordinated with those services provided in the Business Law practice area.

Documents we routinely prepare for clients include Wills, Revocable Living Trusts, Financial Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Credit Shelter Trusts, Marital Trusts, QTIP Trusts, Special Needs Trusts, Education Trusts, Life Insurance Trusts, Irrevocable Trusts, Charitable Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships and Buy-Sell Agreements. In the preparation of documents, we carefully consider all relevant tax issues and we strive to retain maximum flexibility while accomplishing clients' wishes.

We highly value the trust our clients place in us in this sensitive area and look forward to the opportunity to assist clients in developing their estate plan.
